Welcome back, UCLA IEEE! We
hope you’ve had a great summer and are ready for the many exciting things to
come this year! One of these is a new IEEE Newsletter, which has undergone a major
redesign to bring only the info you need into the spotlight. Bright, fun
colors indicate the priority of opportunities, while info cards in the left
column highlight essential dates and locations for calendar events. These new
visual cues help you spend less time reading and more time doing, perfect for
the busy engineer. Look forward to more of what IEEE has in store this year.

Fall General Meeting#1:
UCLA IEEE Introduction
|
IEEE kicks off the year with
its biggest event. For both incoming and returning students, the first
general meeting is a gateway to the many opportunities IEEE has to offer:
major projects (OPS, MicroMouse, NATCAR), the lab resources (including a 3D
printer), and our friendly staff. Delicious food will be provided.

EE 3 Mentors Needed
|
Professor Greg Pottie is
looking to hire mentors for his EE 3 labs this Fall. The interactive and
well-paying position requires satisfactory coursework in either the new EE 3
or EE 110L, and experience with projects such as OPS, MicroMouse, or NATCAR
is a plus. Responsibilities include assisting students with using lab
equipment, building their final project, and coding in LabView.
Mentors will work around
two 2-hour lab sections, found on the Registrar for scheduling. Email
Professor Pottie with your CV/resume if interested.

Solar Decathlon & Tour of Schneider-Electric
|
Schneider-Electric has invited
UCLA EE and MAE students to take a visit to the Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon, an international competition for energy efficient
solar-powered houses. This event is perfect for engineering and architecture
students interested in forming a future UCLA team, or simply in exploring the
concept homes of 20 schools on the site.
*The company will provide
charter transportation from UCLA to the Orange County Great Park in
Irvine, as well as dinner for the evening. All attendees will be free to
explore the village, interact with vendors, and listen to some of the
speakers. The charter bus is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so sign up no
later than September 22.
